Scholarship to Singapore (Goh Geng Swee)

Dr Goh Keng Swee Scholarship for Undergraduate Student

The Goh Keng Swee Scholarship is a private scholarship set up by the Singapore financial community, and is administered by the Association of Banks in Singapore. The scholarship is awarded to 3-4 individuals from the Asia-Pacific region, who are of sound character and outstanding intellectual ability, for them to pursue undergraduate studies in approved areas so as to develop their potential as leaders in these fields. These scholarships are tenable only at local universities in Singapore.

Eligible Programmes
The scholarship will be for the pursuit of undergraduate degree commencing August 2008. The course of study should preferably but not necessarily be relevant to the financial sector. All programmes will be conducted in English.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, a candidate must:

  • be a citizen/passport holder of selected Asia-Pacific region (The selected Asia Pacific regions are Brunei, Philippines, Thailand, Hong Kong, PRC, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, Cambodia, Korea, Lao PDR, Taiwan and Myanmar)
  • be preferably below 25 years of age;
  • have an acceptable English score;
  • have outstanding GCE ‘A’ Level or equivalent qualifications acceptable for admission to the intended course of study at the Singapore university concerned;
    Applicants are to apply to Singapore university for AY2008/09 on their own. Only those who are successful in obtaining placement on their own merit will be considered for the Dr Goh Keng Swee Scholarship.
  • have a good record of participation in co-curricular activities that hightlight leadership qualities.

Selection for Scholarship Consideration
Candidates found suitable for scholarship consideration will be notified in May 2008. Candidates not shortlisted will not be notified.

Application Period
Application starts on 19 November 2007 and ends on 31 December 2007.

Terms and Conditions of Award
The scholarship covers:

  • Tuition and other compulsory fees
  • Maintenance allowance
  • Economy air passage:
    • from country of residence to Singapore at beginning of programme
    • from Singapore to country of residence at end of programme
    • from country of residence to Singapore to serve the bond, if scholarship recipient is assigned to work in a company based in Singapore.

Bond
Successful candidates will be required to work for three years upon completion of their studies either in:

  • an approved company in Singapore; or
  • an approved Singapore-based company in their home country.

The placement of scholars to serve their bonds will be determined by the Dr Goh Keng Swee Scholarship Fund.
