Profile

Some of the special features about Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) include its multicultural environment and dual-language education system. Another feature of the university is the focus on practical education. Half of the faculty members are from outside of Japan and the other half are Japanese. Similarly, the student body is made up of half Japanese students, the other half being international students from 65 countries and regions around the world. The multicultural environment at APU cannot be found at other Japanese universities. Classes are taught in either English or Japanese and students can choose which language they wish to take classes in. International students who have never learnt Japanese before will be able to study Japanese from beginners' level. APU has also been actively developing its Internship Program so that students will be able to reinforce what they have learnt in classes by applying it to the real world. Over 200 students in 2002 participated in the Internship Program and were able to gain valuable experiences and know-how through working in real companies.


Environment

APU is located in Beppu City, Oita Prefecture which is in the southern part of Japan. Beppu is a tourism based city with hot springs, which attract more than twelve million tourists annually. Just a five minute walk from campus are the student dormitories where International students can spend their first year.


Computer

More than 1,000 computers are available, and the number of computers per student is extremely high. Students are provided an e-mail address and account No. at the time of enrollment so they can access the internet freely.

Student Activities

Orientation, Entrance Ceremony in April/September, Freshman welcome party, APU Festival in Spring/Autumn, Home-stay/Home-visit program, Language Week designed to help students become familiar with various languages through cultural events, Attractive club activities such as entrepreneurs, soccer, basketball, swimming, tea ceremony, Japanese calligraphy, APU station(broadcasting) and Tae kwon do etc.

Special Student Scholarship(100% tuition waiver plus annual stipend of 1, 000,000yen, APU Scholarship Program 1(100% tuition waiver), APU Scholarship Program 2(65% tuition reduction), APU Scholarship Program 3(30% tuition reduction), Honors Scholarship sponsored by the Japanese Government(annual stipend of approx. 600,000yen), Student Drmitories equipped with about 900 single rooms with reasonal rent available
